Gospel Living In And Through The World

    Welcome to the Secular Franciscan website for St. Benedict the Moor Fraternity. You are invited to take a look at our fellowship and visit with us. We are part of a family that has a long history, beginning with St. Francis of Assisi in 1226, yet we are part of our world today. We are committed to a Rule that has as its goal Gospel living in and through the world, drawing from the ever-fresh stream of the life of Jesus as told in the Gospels. We experience his life in the sacraments, prayer, meditation on Scripture, and fraternity meetings.

    Like St. Francis, we bring that life-giving stream to the world of our workplaces, our families and friends as we strive to live in simplicity, purity of heart and obedience to the Church, and to love one another as Christ commanded.

    Here in the heart of New York City, we strive to minister to the needs of others wherever we see them, whether of those we don't know or each other, or in our apostolates. We strive to help others and, where necessary, change conditions into what is worthy of the children of God, by our involvement in recycling to protect the environment, by our choices and, not least by our prayer.

    Our meetings are once a month at St. Francis of Assisi parish. We pray together, offering praises to God through the Church in the Liturgy of the Hours and the Mass. We draw inspiration for our journey to God through ongoing formation, and learning from each others' lives and from the lives of the saints as they brought Christ to the world.

    We pray St. Francis' blessing on you and all you love:

               The Lord bless you and keep you;

              May He show His face to you and

              look on you with kindness.

              May the Lord give you peace.
